Plus, it was filmed in my area, and that's always fun. Community is the reason that I'm a Unitarian. I'm not in a place of belief right now, but journeying with other seekers is important to me. The appeal to duplicate the "mega church" is affecting the decision making of our presbytery at the moment. It is a struggle to discern what is faithfulness to God and not be distracted by the seeming success of larger numbers of other denominations. The books I am reading are "Pathway to Renewal" by Daniel P Smith and Mary K Sellon and "The Emerging Church" by Bruce Sanguin. Here is one quote I like: "Hold in your heart memories of moments when the church was really "being church." Dream of the difference it would make for you and for others like you, if that memory described the normal state of your congregation. Renewal happens as you make a habit of living that new life, now. Don't ever underestimate your power to effect change. Congregations shift member by member. Live renewal. Live it each and every day.
